The Deal
So here’s the deal….
Last year, while studying fashion design, I was introduced to an interesting site, The Sartorialist. The site basically started as a platform to exhibit New York street fashion. Although the Sartorialist has a love for photography, and many years of experience in the fashion industry, the site has inspired me to start my own blog based on a similar concept. So basically, I have decided to hit the streets and take photos of the way the youth of Johannesburg expresses themselves through clothing. I cannot claim to be a seasoned photographer, but armed with a digicam I will do my best to convey what is going down on the streets of Jozi. I have an absolute passion for clothing and fashion, and an appreciation for expression, even if it may not appeal to me personally. So, I figure, I will use this arena to share my vision in hopes that it may inspire the youth to feel comfortable enough to create, and to express through any medium, but more particularly through clothing.
I’ve only just begun but I am on an ardent search, prowling my regular nightspots, generally coming out unsuccessful, but not despondent! I know the Jo’ burg youth scene has a lot to offer, and I will reveal this expression! Subsequently, I have begun with a few pictures of me articulating my thoughts and ideas through my own clothing. I can only hope that I will find more like-minded individuals, that is people who use fashion and clothing as more than just a vehicle of protection, but a vehicle of communicating their creativity.
